Metal Braces

Metal Braces are also called traditional braces. They utilize constant, gentle pressure that enables the teeth to move into their desired position. Braces consist of brackets and the main arch wire that supports them. They are permanently fixed to your teeth and require frequent follow-up brace adjustment visits, so that the dentist can tighten and monitor your orthodontic progress. This process can take up to 3 years to finish, depending on the severity of the case.

At Orchid Dental, we understand just how important straightening your teeth and achieving your perfect smile can be for your overall health and self confidence. Give us a call or arrange an appointment with us today!

Who Should Wear Braces?

A highly versatile method of orthodontic correction using brackets and archwires, metal braces can correct a variety of dental problems such as bite, jaw position, and even severely crooked teeth. Braces exert a constant pressure on your teeth which helps move them into the proper position.

Metal braces are effective at treating overcrowding and give your dentist the control needed to move the teeth in small increments at a time. Most of the time, metal braces are the go-to treatment for severe and serious orthodontic cases. Here are some of the dental health issues braces can fix:

  • Overcrowding: teeth that are situated close to each other; makes cleaning tough and affects the appearance of your smile

  • Gap Teeth: there is noticeable space between two or more teeth; food can easily get stuck here leading to sore gums or gum disease

  • Malocclusion or misalignment of top and bottom teeth when you bite down. Three types of defective bites are overbite, underbite, and open bite. Overbite is when your upper dental arch overlaps your lower dental arch while underbite is just the other way around – your bottom dental arch extends farther than your top teeth. Furthermore, open bite is when your upper and lower teeth do not come into contact with each other.

  • Missing lateral incisors: genetically missing teeth

  • Overjet: front teeth sticking out

  • Self Esteem Issues: Are you self-conscious about your smile because of the way your teeth look? Braces will give you the confidence of a brand-new smile.
