What Are Dental Crowns and Bridges?
-
Dental Crowns are little caps that have the look of natural teeth. They cover and protect damaged, decayed, or worn-out teeth. Crowns restore the shape, size, strength, and appearance of your teeth.
-
Dental Bridges are artificial teeth (pontics) that are anchored to adjacent natural teeth or implants in order to fill gaps left by missing teeth. Bridges help restore your smile, maintain facial shape, and improve chewing and speaking.

What Issues Do Dental Crowns and Bridges Help With?
Crowns:
-
Protecting Weak Teeth – Crowns can protect teeth weakened by decay or fractures from further damage.
-
Restoring Broken Teeth – They can restore severely worn or broken teeth to a shape and function that mimics natural teeth.
-
Supporting Dental Restorations – Crowns can support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth structure remaining.
-
Cosmetic Enhancements – They improve the appearance of discolored or misshapen teeth.
-
Covering Dental Implants – Crowns can be used to cover dental implants, providing a natural look and feel.
Bridges:
-
Replacing Missing Teeth – Bridges fill the gap left by one or more missing teeth, preventing surrounding teeth from shifting.
-
Restoring Functionality – They restore the ability to chew and speak properly.
-
Maintaining Facial Shape – By filling gaps, bridges help maintain the natural shape of your face.
-
Preventing Tooth Movement – They prevent remaining teeth from moving out of position, which can cause bite problems.

Come to Wolf Willow Orchid Dental for Dental Crowns and Bridges in SE Calgary
-
initial Consultation – During your first visit, we begin with an evaluation of your oral health, take X-rays, and discuss your treatment options.
-
Preparation
-
Crowns – The tooth receiving the crown is reshaped to allow space for the crown. If necessary, a buildup may be done to support the crown.
-
Bridges – We prepare the adjacent teeth (abutments) by taking off a tiny portion of enamel.
-
-
Impressions – We take impressions of your teeth so that we can create a custom crown or bridge that fits perfectly. Temporary crowns or bridges may be placed in the meantime so your teeth have protection while the final restoration is being made.
-
Fabrication – Skilled technicians at the dental lab use the impressions to create your custom crown or bridge. This process usually takes a few weeks.
-
Fitting and Adjustment – Once the crown or bridge is ready, you will return for a fitting. We make sure to check the fit and bite, making any necessary adjustments to ensure comfort and functionality.
-
Permanent Placement – The crown or bridge is permanently cemented in place, restoring the look and function of your teeth.
