What is Dental Anxiety?

Dental anxiety is a feeling of fear, unease, or stress regarding visiting the dentist or undergoing dental procedures. It affects a significant number of people and can range from mild discomfort to severe phobia.

Studies suggest that around 36% of the population experiences some level of dental anxiety, with about 12% suffering from extreme dental fear. Common roots of dental anxiety include fear of pain, previous negative experiences, loss of control, embarrassment, and needle phobia.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry helps to alleviate anxiety, making dental visits more comfortable and manageable. Patients can undergo necessary dental treatments without stress or discomfort. It helps with other issues such as:

  • Low Pain Threshold – Increased sensitivity to pain.

  • Strong Gag Reflex – Difficulty managing dental tools in their mouth.

  • Extensive Dental Work – Need for lengthy or complex procedures.

  • Difficulty Sitting Still – Inability to stay calm and still during treatments.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

A mild sedative that is breathed in with the help of a small mask placed over your nose that helps patients relax. They feel more comfortable during dental procedures.

Benefits:

  • Quick onset and recovery.

  • Safe for patients of all ages.

  • Adjustable dosage to meet individual needs.

  • Minimal side effects.
